Crestwood School District dedicated a new scoreboard and officially welcomed baseball back to its secondary campus Friday afternoon prior to its Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 game against Wyoming Valley West.
The scoreboard was dedicated in memory of the late John Matthew Dean who passed way in 1998 at age four and one-half after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Dean was the son of John and Lisa Dean of Glen Summit.
“Mountain Top has been so good to us, we wanted to give something back to the community,” said John Dean, who is the school district’s solicitor.
“When Crestwood brought baseball back to the secondary campus, we decided to donate the scoreboard in our son’s memory,” he added.
The Deans’ younger son, Matthew, a senior at Crestwood, is one of the captains for this year’s Comets team. He plays third base and pitches.
The Crestwood baseball team resumed playing at the field on the secondary campus this year after playing at the American Legion field in Rice Twp. for the last 10 years. Four members of the district’s board of education, Barry Boone, president; Anna Bibla, Lauren McCurdy and Randy Swank, threw out ceremonial first pitches prior to the game. (Citizens Voice April 2021)
